Kicking the ball is one of the basic and fundamental practices that one should learn to be a soccer player. Control over the ball is the key to win in soccer. The ball is controlled through various methods such as passing, shooting and clearing. To learn the proper striking of the ball it is important to practice regularly. It is recommended for the beginners to kick the “dead” ball it can be replaced with the kicking of the running ball after a short period of practice.

Tips for ground kick:

There are certain things one has to learn in order to produce a superior kick. It is very important to keep the balance of the body. The best strike is decided by the combination of the supporting as well as the kicking foot. The direction of the supporting foot in combination with the ball will decide the power of the kick as well as the height.

In order to give power to the kick and keep it low one should keep the supporting foot in the line with the ball. In order to produce a lofted or rising shot, one must keep the supporting leg slightly behind.

The role of the upper body is quite significant in making a good strike. In order to produce a lofty shot one shall lean backward while forward leaning will make a hard and low kick.

The combination of knee with the kicking leg plays a very important role. One should learn to keep the knee in the line or above the ball while kicking in order to get a powerful strike.

To keep the balance of the body one should practice landing on the kicking foot after making the strike.

Tips for volley

It is very important to maintain the balance while striking the ball in the air. It is important to be in the line of the ball while making a kick. The quick adjustment of the footing is necessary to be in the proper line of the ball.

If the ball is very close to the body one shall try to swing the ball rather than kicking it.

There are certain situations in the game when an individual has to jump in order to make a kick. It is important to keep balance of the body while making a jump. One should learn to concentrate properly in order to produce good results.

The most important skill in soccer is to control the ball at any level, and for any type of player. The skill of controlling a tricky ball effectively and quickly is the most important technique that makes one a great player. The control of the ball is also known as ‘First Touch’ and is usually the significant difference between failure and success of moves in the game.

Usually, players cannot afford to have fun with a first-time ball; so, they should stop the ball or may have to dribble if no partners are in situation to get a first-time pass. Space and time have great importance in soccer. Basically, a player has to keep many things in mind at the time of controlling the ball, at times protecting the ball by placing their body between the opponent and ball, or dribble the ball, or try to overtake the ball, or shoot the ball. The ability to do any of those is generally based on how good the player’s first touch is.

Participants should build up a feel for the ball. A player needs to approach the ball with normally a light touch, and hit the ball with different areas of the foot depending on the direction the player intends the ball to go. Players should practice to control the ball on the ground in addition to in the air. It is important to keep in mind that the best control to have is to get the ball and release it with a single touch without having to reach or chase for it. A skillful control is very automatic to few player, but tough for most others and requires plenty of practice.

Dribbling and controlling the ball are sometimes considered to be the same technique in soccer. However there is difference in dribbling and controlling the ball. While controlling, a participant simply receives the ball while dribbling means lightly kicking the ball after it has been taken into possession.

The talent of a soccer player is judged by the ability to control the ball. The success of a soccer player depends on his ability to operate the ball protecting it from the opponents by the methods like shooting and passing. All the famous players of soccer are famous for their best control over the ball. To achieve the best control over the ball one has to undergo a hard professional training. The rigorous training will be able to make one a better player.

Methods to control:

There are two popular methods of controlling the ball, commonly known as trapping and receiving. The amount of perfection in these methods decides the level of the player in the game.

Receiving:

Receiving is the method of controlling the ball by redirecting it in a particular direction. While running ahead of the opponent the player shall not stop the ball rather one can redirect it in their own direction. To direct the ball properly one should try to make contact with the top part of the ball. Tapping it lightly in the same direction will give more possession on the ball. Good players are judged by their capability to control the ball under pressure. This is the deciding point of the game which gives the upper hand over of the opposition.

Trapping:

Trapping is another method of controlling the ball. It is used when the ball is going very fast and it is difficult to redirect it in the first touch. A player should try to keep the body in line with the ball. If one can keep the feet open in the direction of the ball it will make the tapping more effective. One should try to relax the muscles of that particular part of the body that is in the line of the ball before cushioning it. It will provide extra energy to the ball. While cushioning a player should shift the body part that is in the opposite direction of the ball. It will help to maintain the balance of the body.

These are the two popular methods to control the ball. If one can master these methods through a constant practice, it will provide extra advantage over the opponent while controlling the ball. To learn these methods properly professional training is highly recommended.

The ability to defend the ball is an essential skill for the best soccer players. There are various methods of defending in the soccer. The four most important methods of defending the ball are: containing, block tackle, pock tackle and slide tackle. here are certain tips to use during the application of the above mentioned methods:

Block tackle:

The most important and the fundamental way of running down with the opponent are called the block tackle. It is the method intended to give control over the ball while keeping the proper balance. In order to maintain the balance while using the block tackle method one should place the supporting foot firmly. To get the control over the ball from the opponent it is important to make a quick move in the same direction in which the opponent is moving the ball. If the block tackle is executed properly it is sure to give control over the ball.

Containing:

It is most important to lower the center of gravity while containing an attacker. It is achieved by bending the knee or leaning forward. Backpedal is an option used when the attacker tries to move side ways. It is never a good idea to face the dribbler from at close range; it will give him the chance to put the ball between the legs or cross it by the side. In this position it is difficult to make a U-turn and control the opponent again. One should move toward the opponent from a 45 degree angle and try to force him towards the side line. Side move along with the opponent is better than making a direct attack on him.
Pock tackle:

Pock tackle is a tricky way of pushing the ball away from the opponent. It is better to use the foot that is closer to the ball. This is a risky method and one can lose the possession of the ball while making this attempt.

Slide tackle:

This is a stunning method of gaining control over the ball. It is a side way kick that is used to push the ball away from opponent’s feet. It is more effective when the opponent is running down towards the sideline or attempting to safeguard the ball. This method is to be applied only when the ball is too far from the goal or when there are strong chances of losing the control over the ball.

Professional coaching plays a vital role in the performance of the players in a game. A professional coach is not only the master of the game but also knows the psychological aspects of the game. The coach can balance the fun and work in the game to make it more interesting and ensure the involvement of all the players in the training. Minor training will not be able to maintain the interest of the player or their skill. A good coach understands very well the importance of special training exercises in soccer.

Most of the players are fond of scrimmaging. though it is not an effective practice as the players would not be able to learn much from it. Most of the practice drills are not so interesting but these are necessary practices to perform. These drills when performed with other self-motivated exercises provide a great deal of learning to the players. These drills are very helpful in making the player more attentive.

Practice games:

There are certain practice or training games that play a vital role in making the player physically hard and good. These practice games lead the player to work hard on certain parts of the game that are more vital. There are a number of small-sided and stipulated games that plays an important role in learning the rules and regulations of the game. For example, controlling the number of passes or touches will make the players more habitual with the rules of the game and they will adapt these rules thoroughly.

A longer practice plan:

A good practice plan is that which last for a longer period of time. It progresses slowly while teaching the necessary aspects of the game. At the initial level making the player physically tough is the key to success. To achieve such level the players must follow the race and other hard practices regularly. The first step of a professional coaching plan is to teach the fundamentals to the players so that they became familiar with the rules and regulations. Tough, these rules are easy to understand and tough to apply. These require a hard physical practice to adapt properly.

There are a number of practice games that are played by the soccer players to achieve balance for the body. The major categories of such games are slow race and long race etc. the constant practice makes a perfect soccer player.
